Monday Night Beer Fights - Week 1 (updated with pics)

February 5, 2008

The first week of the Monday Night Beer Fights went very well. This was the first of 12 weeks of a unique beer tasting competition. Here’s how it works.

To start the game you get two coasters. Each time you have a “miss”, you lose one coaster. Each round consists of two shots of two different beers. You have to guess which beer is requested by the judge. If you get it right, you move to the next round, and a miss you move on until you are out of coasters.

For example: Round 1 last night was Busch and Heineken. We were asked to select which one was Heineken. Most would say this is relatively easy to distinguish. The choices did get progressively harder with a few “softballs” in there.

Our first week saw eight contestants and 12 rounds to come up with our first winner: Scott Snyder of O’Fallon. To the victor went a nice shirt and hat from local beer provider, O’Fallon Brewery. On top of the physical gifts, Scott also gets an entry into our Monday Night Beer Fight Championship at the end of twelve weeks. The winners of each round will compete for a Grand Prize to be announced later.

The Head Judge for the evening was none other than the owner of O’Fallon Brewery and brewmaster Tony Caradonna. Tony has multiple beers available at Bottom’s Up Brewhouse. While the Brewery has been in business since 2000, you can tell Tony’s love of beer and beer experiance (exBEERiance if you will!) run much deeper than that. Please check out his website for more information on their fine local brew.
