Ashleigh Arnold -Season 1 MVP - Monday Night Beer Fights

June 7, 2008 | Leave a Comment

As you know, Monday Night Beer Fights-Season One recently concluded. We had a lot of fun throughout the 12 weeks and the championship round, but one contestant rose above the rest in beer fighting stature.

Ashleigh Arnold participated in Beer Fights five times (including championship round) and EACH TIME  she finished in the top three. She had two wins during the regular season and a solid second place showing in the championship round. After all of the different match-ups we had with the different beers, this is no small feat.

Congratulations Ashleigh, as you are our Season One MVP!

Ashleigh - Beer Fight MVP

Speaking of Beer Fights….. Season Two will begin on June 16th. Stop by for more information!

Monday Night Beer Fight Championships, we have a CHAMPION!

May 13, 2008 | Leave a Comment

After 12 weeks of beer fights, the long awaited championship round finally arrived. After much anticipation, the contestants from our Monday Night Beer Fights assembled for the true test. This final round was not like the others, it was a well-rounded approach that had everyone on their toes.

The judges at Bottoms Up Brewhouse had some tricks up their sleeves that made the contest a test of true beer drinking experience. These new twists were, in no particular order:

-Regular Round, shot vs. shot
This was just like the regular season, one shot versus another, contestant chooses the shot that judge asks for. Example: one shot is Heineken, one is Coors Light, judge asks for Coors Light

-10+ round (1 shot only, two choices, normally reserved for 10 rounds or more, but this time it was possible in any round)
Normally reserved for after 10 rounds, this is where the judge only brings one shot out, but asks contestant to pick from two choices of beer brands.

-Elimination round: sampler platter
If you’ve been to Bottoms Up, you may be familiar with our beer sampler in which you can pick 5 different beers on tap. This round follows that, where contestant has 5 different beer shots and must write down what they are. This was an elimination round where no matter how many coasters a contestant had, if they were the one that got the least amount of correct answers, then they were eliminated.

-Elimination round: DAS BOOT!
Judges filled a glass boot, and each contestant had to drink from the boot, and pass it on. The kicker (no pun intended!) here was that each contestant could only drink 2 swallows maximum, could not spill any beer (or they were out), and if they finished the beer in the boot, the contestant that drank prior to them was eliminated. Strategy came into play big time. See the photos below. (This round is a little hard to explain, so the next time you are in Bottoms Up, ask for more details!)

-Trivia round
This one consisted of simply beer trivia that has been compiled. Some answers may even have been available from this website….

-True or False round
Another Trivia type round

-Beer Style round
A shot was placed in front of contestant, and was either one style or another and contestant must select one. Example: Is this a lager or a pilsner? A wheat or an ale?

-Beer Ingredient round
A shot placed in front of contestant that is heavy in a certain ingredient and player must decide which is the stronger ingredient. Example: Does this beer have more malt or hops?

-Lonestar Round
Based on the bottle caps from Lonestar Beer, a craft beer native to Texas that have little pictograms on the bottom of the bottle caps. Example: “RIC + (picture of a shirt); next line was: NIC + (picture of a sun) = Richard Nixon

After all of these rounds, it came down to two… our regular season MVP Ashleigh Arnold who placed 3rd or above in each round she entered, and Scott Snyder, our very first Monday Night Beer Fight winner from all the way back in Week 1.

And the winner is……………………….

SCOTT SNYDER!

Congratulations Scott on a fine victory. Scott was awarded two tickets to a special event with the Bottoms Up management in a luxury box at an upcoming Cardinals Game.

Other contestants won some participant gifts, compliments of Eric Parrill of Summit Distributing, bringing you the never-watered down taste of Miller Lite and other fine brands. Check out all that they deliver at their website: www.summit-distributing.com They also carry the top craft beer in the United States, Blue Moon. Eric provided the contestants some good trivia of his own during an intermission between rounds. Thanks Eric!

And so, Season One comes to an end…. but stay tuned beer fans, as watch for Season Two starting up soon.

And as always, BOTTOMS UP!

The Monday Night Beer Fight Championship is rapidly approaching! Come on out and cheer on your favorite “regular season” winner. Rumor has it that the judges have prepared a little different approach to this round, a little championship flair if you will. Unfortunately, that is all the information we have, so you’ll have to show up on Monday night to find out just what that flair is.

Contest starts at 7pm.

Also, we have been having people ask about beer fights, and while you are a little late for this round, beer fights will be starting up again in the near future. Stay tuned to this website for further details!

Monday Night Beer Fights - Week 12

April 22, 2008 | Leave a Comment

The 12th, and final, round of beer fights is in the books. It was a nice weather outside, and the beer was cold inside, and this week, Mike Swaleh emerges as the final participant in the beer fight championship round. Great work Mike! In true champion form, Mike also completed his extra credit round to finish out the night. Mike will have his work cut out for him, though, as we have a solid crew of beer champs waiting to head to head with him to fight for that grand prize of the Cardinals game trip with Bottoms Up Management. The beer fight judges also have been refining their beer matchups and are ready for the challenge.

Congratulations to all champions! Keep watching for the final round information to come!

Another great week of beer fights in the books, and another new face at the championship table. Congratulations to Dan Brown of O’Fallon, MO. Dan outlasted all other competitors to secure his spot in the final round in a couple weeks.

Great job, Dan!

Monday Night Beer Fights - Week 10

April 13, 2008 | Leave a Comment

This week’s beer fight shared the date with a very special day in history. April 7th marked the anniversary of the repeal of prohibition. Special thanks to O’Fallon Brewery who held a toast (entries submitted by the crowd) and we all raised our glasses in appreciation for being able to drink beer.

On to the beer fights! Great turnout tonight as 28 participants tested their beer tasting abilities in our beer fight night. 11 rounds brought us to our newest winner, Tiffany Keene. Congratulations Tiffany!
